Fuse Ratings

The rating for 20A continuous use is based on a circuit load being always on (constant), and the 40A blow rating is based on an intermittent circuit load for surge protection.

Continuous ratings for fuses are based on the fact they should blow at the specified amperage when the circuit is always on. The blow ratings for fuses are based on the intermittent circuit; therefore, the fuse is required to heat up before blowing.
